Feeling like a Runner again

You know your a runner when you wake up in the morning excited to go running :)

Sunday morning woke up and went out for a nice little "fun" run and didn't look at my Garmin the entire time while I was freeing!!
Ran 2.81 miles in 28:34
Mile 1 10:49
Mile 2 10:03
Mile .81 7:41 (9:31/mile pace)

Yesterday took Lil Miss Bean out in the BOB and it was so pretty and I felt great. She fell asleep while running so that was good.

Today I dropped the Lil Bean off at Grammy's house and went to the gym to not only run but lift.
Ran 2 miles
1st 400 was walk to jog
2nd 400 was 10/mile pace
3rd 400 was 8:30/mile pace
4th 400 was 9:00/mile pace
5th 400 was 8:30/mile pace
6th 400 was 9:13/mile pace
7th and 8th 400 was 10/mile pace
Lifted leg weights, did 100 crunches and then did the eternal stair climber for 10 min on fat burn mode.

My goal is at this point to drop 11 lbs by 11/17/11 because we have a trip planned to go see my hubby's family back east and if I drop 11 that would mean I would only have 7 more lbs (3 lbs are milk) to go and probably fit into most of my regular jeans so I don't have to buy clothes. Right now all my maternity clothes are too big for the most part and I bought a 1 pair of jeans that are now getting a tad too big but I'm too stubborn to buy more at this point. Therefore, I'm going all out Jillian style and kickin my butt over the next 6 weeks.

Wittle Words Wednesday

I know Wittle is not a word...but just think I am 2 saying it and it will be cute.

Speaking of cute...

Here is someone who is cute:
Miss Bean just chillin in the chair, her shoes are too big, size 2 are still too big, but she looks scrumptiously adorable anyway.

Oh and the folks at Scenic Half sent me my free photo which I didn't pick up due to Miss Bean's melt down. How Awesome, I'm thinking of definitely doing the Half next year or actually racing the 10k...Yippeee!!

That's all I'm writing...just keeping it wittle.

Scenic Half 10k Recap

I was completely giddy when I got up yesterday morning, like a child on Christmas Morning, totally pumped. I love the anticipation and the build up of race day. It's an awesome feeling and that's one of the main reasons I enjoy being in a race. I'm an adrenaline junkie and I thrive in that kind of environment.

My main focus on this run was training and being a support for my stepmom. She really pushed herself on this race and PR'd as well as placed in her age group. Whoo HOO!!

I was definitely her pacer because she needed to listen to music and she couldn't talk and run at this pace so I just cruised next to her. It was pretty cool to be the one keeping the pace and encouraging her on. We stopped and walked through all the aid stations for water and I didn't stop my garmin. She ran the whole time and only asked to stop once in the sixth mile because her foot was bugging her and her Ipod was stuck on the same song and she needed to switch it. I asked her if she wanted to sprint to the finish and she did. When we rounded the corner just after mile 6 and only had .22 to go I picked up the pace and as soon as we saw the finish sign I yelled just let me know when you want to sprint and she yelled "This is me sprinting!!" I looked down at my watch a realized we were in the 9's and felt bad for asking that because if I would of looked at my watch before I would of realized that we were doing a sprint for her. At the end she was stoked though with the time.

Immediately after the race I had to run to my lil bean because she was not feeling very well. I had to nurse her on a park bench facing the lake...luckily there was not anyone else around and my hubby guarded me. She then pooped and had to change her diapee on the same park bench, I put her on my lap because it was cold. She was really tired and didn't take a nap while I was running so I had to carry her around and until she was feeling better and then I gave her back to my hubby so I could get my pic and then she threw up all over him :( Needless to say right after that I knew we had to get going and I wasn't going to get my free pic or massage. A mother's job never ends.  I carried her back to the car and she fell asleep. She is doing better now and didn't throw up again. Not sure if she got stressed because I was gone or what because she had no fever.

I also met Tasha in person who I had met on the Dailymile and she also has a blog. She is a super fast runner, an inspiration to me and was very nice. We didn't get to chat very much due to the lil bean but it was great meeting her in person.

Ok, I'm not going to lie, I was disappointed with myself in this race. I was glad I helped my stepmom complete the race and get her personal best but last night when I got home I just felt BLAH. It's probably just the post race blues. But I guess what I'm disappointed with is the fact that last year I could run 6 miles in 45 minutes in a training run. Yes and that was before I was pregnant and before I gained all the weight from pregnancy. I guess what I am disappointed with is the fact I gained so much weight and put myself in this state and I just want my fitness back and my speed back., it will come, it's just frustrating until it does. My thoughts last night dragged me down even until this morning until I started to think of all I have accomplished since having my lil bean:
1) I have a bright beautiful healthy little girl.
2) I'm a stay at home mom (Yes I love this!)
3) I've already lost 56 lbs (26 lbs of those have been counting calories and exercising, the first 30 went off super easy in the 8 weeks after giving birth)
4) I only have 18 lbs to's in the teens now
5) In the last 4 months I dropped my EASY running pace from 13 min miles to 11 min miles.

Overall I need to not focus on the here and now regarding my weight and my speed. I need to look ahead and keep my eyes focused on the prize. I will be skinny again and I will be fast again, it might take another year or two, but it will happen. God reminded me of this verse:

"while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:18

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11

I NEED to BELIEVE not only in Him but in myself and that He gave me the gift of running and I need to enjoy it and I need to enjoy life.

Last run before 10k

Yesterday I departed from my house with the Lil Bean and the BOB to accomplish 2 EASY miles.

When I went to run my legs felt very heavy and I was not feeling very chipper so I knew right off the bat that these miles would be SLOOOOW. And yes they were,.

2 miles @ 24:31
1st mile 12:26
2nd mile 12:05

Today I was going to do Jillian's 30 Day Shred but I decided to pass on it because I also walked 3 miles yesterday and my legs are still a little sore and I want them to feel rested on race day which is on Sunday!

I'm pretty excited about the race on Sunday and am trying to stay positive and not put myself in the Ferris wheel of self doubt.

My plan is just finish the race and run for fun because I don't want to truly race till my speed is back.
Maybe I'll race Bloomsday this year? Sounds like fun and it is still far enough away from the Coeur d'Alene Half that I want to do the last weekend of May.

last couple runs

On Sunday I went for a 2 mile EASY run and it felt great!
22:36 for 2 miles 11:18/mile pace

Yesterday did my first 5 mile run post baby. The last time I ran 5 miles was July 7, 2010 which was when I was 7 weeks pregnant and didn't know. I remember I had to walk in the middle of it because I was SOO HOT, that is one thing about pregnancy that I didn't like was being so hot all the time. I found out 4 days later that I was pregnant and then the doctor told me not to run...grrr. So here is the recap of yesterday:

5 miles: 54:41
Average Pace 10:56/mile
Mile 1: 11:51
Mile 2: 11:10
Mile 3: 11:38
Mile 4: 10:59
Mile 5: 10:01

The last mile I felt really good and was on a roll. I didn't feel like slowing down. It was nice to go at a decent pace. I'm excited for my race on Sunday except I determined that it will just be a training run because I'm not really in the shape to race it the way I want to. Once my speed work is back down to 7 minute miles I will race a 10k but as for now it will just be a fun run.

There is a lot of crazy stuff going on around me right now and it was so nice to get out and run and just hang out with God and pray. Running really helps my mind get focused on things "I should" be thinking about...positive things.

I realized I  need to focus on being thankful, here are some things I'm thankful for:

I'm thankful for a husband that works and allows me to stay at home with my babycakes.
I'm thankful that I am not injured and can run.
I'm thankful that I am losing weight and won't be this heavy forever.

3 miles, in an oven?!

What an Oven?!

No really I felt like I was in an oven. I'm glad I was not because I had Lil Miss Bean with me but it was extremely hot while I was running. The weird thing is that I used to LOVE running in the heat but ever since pregnancy and childbirth I've been a little warmer than I used to...could it be the extra 19 LB's that my body is carrying...yes, I think so!! (positive note: I lost a pound since I started blogging :)

My plan for today was 3 miles with 2 800 meter repeats at 9 min mile pace.

I completed it, my repeats were not exactly 9 min mile but suffice to say the 85 degree weather is to blame.

1st mile was 12:00 min mile warm up. Which really wasn't bad considering the heat and the fact I didn't feel like running today...but who listens to their feelings anyway?

Repeat 1: Time:4:46 (.51 of a mile), pace of a 9:16 min mile

Light jog of 6:12 for .51 of a mile

Repeat 2: Time: 4:38 (.51 of a mile) pace of 9:06 min mile

Light jog for about a 1/4 mile and then Lil Bean starting fussing quite a bit so I started running
Last 1/2 mile was 5:33

Final Time: 32:29 for 3 miles...Avg Pace Per mile 10:49

I don't know about anyone else but I sure feel like Wonder Woman when I do speed work with the stroller...I feel Bad-A...might just be me...but I thought I'd share.

Jillian kicks my butt and 4 miles W/O a Stroller

Yesterday I went to my mom's house and I decided to workout to Jillian's Get Ripped in 30 days. I was thinking "I've done her 30 day shred so it should not be too much harder." Boy was I wrong!! She tweaked a couple different things and it made a huge difference in the workout. I was sore yesterday and was still sore when I woke up today. Knowing that I also had to run 4 miles was kind of a downer but at the same time the run should help loosen up my muscles. I contacted my mother-in-law to watch the Lil Bean so I didn't have to push the stroller too because I was already starting out sore.

Recap on the Run.
4 miles at 44:24

1st Mile was 11:42...My thoughts on this mile were..."Figure out how to breath" "Just get in a rhythm" "I should get faster than this, hopefully...someday!"

2nd Mile was 11:.13...thoughts on this mile were.."OK, I feel better! I got in rhythm" "Why does it feel better when I run faster??" "How is it possible to shave 30 seconds of time when I already ran a mile prior to this one? Maybe I should slow down. No I need to listen to my body and go with the rhythm." "I feel good"

3rd Mile was 11:10...thoughts on this mile were "It's hot out, why is there not a breeze." "I don't remember these hills being this hard." "Thank God I don't have the stroller!" "How am I going to run 6.2 miles??" when I start getting negative I start praying because it's the only way to stop being negative, so I started praying and waiting on God to give me some good thoughts...and guess what? He did...He is faithful...I thought of "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."(Philippians 4:13) and "Greater is HE that is in me than he that is in the world" (ref 1 John 4:4) then revelation can "Greater is the LOVE that is in me than the hate that is in this world".."For God so loved the world the He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)  "I feel much better now Thank You Lord"

4th Mile was 10:19...mainly because I had to go potty really bad and I had to book it home...I know they recommended not running this fast if you are supposed to be doing 11 minute miles but I couldn't help myself and I did feel good

All in all, I'm happy with the pace so far. It's as good as it's going to be for now. Not running for 7 months of my pregnancy and 8 weeks postpartum definitely took it's toll on me but I'll be back were I want to be in a jiffy I just need to stay positive and my Lil Bean is totally worth it :)

Training Plan Update- Run #2

Making some updates to my training plan since I failed to do a workout and then changed a speed work run.

Sept 1st: 2 miles Easy w/Stroller at 12/mile pace- Completed
Sept 2nd: Jillian's 30 day Shred workout-Fail, Did not Complete
Sept 3rd: 2 miles with 2x400 repeats at 8:30/mile pace - Completed but changed slightly, details below
Sept 4th: Rest, Walk- Completed, Walked 2 miles
Sept 5th: Xtrain
Sept 6th: 4 miles Easy with Stroller at 12/mile pace
Sept 7th: Xtrain
Sept 8th: Jillian's 30 day Shred
Sept 9th: 2 miles with 2x800 repeats at 9/mile pace - Changing to:3 miles with 2x800 repeats at 9/mile pace
Sept 10th: Xtrain - Changing to Rest, Walk
Sept 11th: Rest, Walk - Changing to 2 miles Easy
Sept 12th: Xtrain
Sept 13th: 5 miles Easy with Stroller at 12/mile pace

My Run on the 3rd I did slightly different partly because I couldn't remember what I had planned and didn't have time to look at it before I left due to being a mom and spending more time preparing Lil Bean to go than myself.

Total Mileage 2.45 miles, 2 running, .45 walking

1st Mile 12:31, very much a warm up mile because I was dragging, but that is pretty usual for my first mile

2nd Mile: I split up into 2 separate 1/2 miles the first being speed and the second a cool down
 1st 1/2 mile was 4:15 (sweet 8:30 pace pushing a jogging stroller :)
 2nd 1/2 miles was 5:48 which was cool down

I would of jogged in between splits of 400 instead of turning it into one split of 800 but as I said I kind of forgot what I was doing and then Lil Bean started getting upset towards the end and I just needed to get back home. All in all I feel good though. The ironic thing is that my legs feel so much better running faster than slower, I'm excited to start getting back to a quicker pace so that my EASY pace runs are in the 9/10 minute a mile pace because it feels better to run at that speed. I always feel the NEED FOR SPEED when I run slow, going slow just doesn't seem right.

2 miles with a jogging stroller...feeling like a Sim

Yesterday, went out to do 2 miles and was not feeling it.

Started to run and was completely sluggish, my mind and body were not into it.

First Mile: 13:19...super slow

Then after the first mile I had to go potty...BAD. I thought maybe I could hold it but it was not going to happen so I had to fast walk home so I didn't have an accident (sorry TMI). I don't know about anybody else but when this happens I feel like a little SIM character. I got home and did my duty and then went back out for another mile.

Second Mile: 11:23...felt way better

Overall I completed 2.94 miles...the .94 was walking before, after and during the run.

Lil Bean fell asleep and looked super cute so I took a picture.
